I have never read through a character’s mental breakdown before and I found it very difficult. I feel like the atmosphere lead to a heavier breakdown for this character. He was put in various situations with people who made him unsafe and feel unwelcome. This feeling of being unwanted, watched, patronized by the white gaze or by those in power is hard without the added hurdle of mental health struggles.
