Yeah, I thought this book was 3 stars when I read it for school. After some relistening... this has changed. Thanks.

First 3.5 I'm going to round up to 4! I had to read this book for my book club and I found it a lot easier to swallow than my greatest enemy (not really when Old Man and the Sea exists..) The Alchemist.

Overall I won't say much besides my growing hatred towards the English pronunciation of Jeanne. It's Joan and that's how the French intended it be pronounced. Not Jean. Never Jean. (Which for the record is also closer to John than it is

Okay. Yeah, Okay. Havent had the chance to given anything a 5 since this year started. I actually only read this because someone else bought it (thank you to my aunt), but I had been wanting to read this for a while.

I don't know if it was the story or just the fact this book is written by C. S. Pacat that I loved it (it's both). Will and Violet and Katherine (rip.) and every single character was truly enjoyable to read about (most of the time...). It was hard to put this down.

I had suspicions of the Dark King reveal mostly out of common sense and the urge to look at fanart. Even with knowing... it was very Good. The last chapter is especially a thrill considering James and the "you set me free" craziness feeling that comes after knowing those two had a PAST.

Anyway 10/10 would read again and recommend.

I had to wait thirty minutes before writing this review to fully process everything I had gone through in the span of one day with this book.

I truly love Will. I love everything about this book. I love a lot of things. Man. I don't even know what to say. I really enjoyed seeing more perspectives from other characters.... I love you Elizabeth... Trust.

I don't even know how to speak on Will and James. I had to reread the last chapter cause uaagahahhhhhh begging for James to not hate him and briefly believing he was going to trust him despite not telling him he's the Dark King and then the fact he's wearing the collar so is this really him aaaaggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Now I can never be normal again.

My emotions were all over the place when I was reading. It was only after I was done that I could truly say that this was 4 stars.

There are times in this book I felt like I was stuck in another 3 star situation, but reminding myself that this is the first book (and getting Mo Xi's wonderful pining) allowed me to get rid of those notions and continue on with hope.

I love the complexity of Mo Xi, Gu Mang, and the other important characters. I cannot wait to continue the story.

Favorite quote: "You're the only one willing to give me a life worse than death."

^ a difficult choice but this just stood out.

I mostly did this to appease my (adult) brother. I had never had any interest in reading the series just because I simply didn't feel like it. I have changed my mind. I found this book enjoyable.

Before I sacrifice the book I spent my hard earned money on to my brother (where I won't see it for 6 months), I need to leave my little review.

This book definitely got me about 30% in! Afterwards... it was smooth sailing through the plot. Definitely would read again.
