"Yes, I think he did. I think he's the sort of guy who sees things five seconds before the rest of the world."

I didn't have much luck with books number 12 and 13 in the Jack Reacher series. I have loved some of the instalments in the series and hated others but I have never not finished one until the year of 2018 and then I ended up not finishing two books in a row!

On to book number 14, 61 HOURS. I was wary but I wanted to carry on with the series and I hoped for the best. 61 HOURS did not let me down, I was hooked from the first chapter, we were back in an action packed universe with the one and only Jack Reacher. I found it difficult to put this story down, I loved the new characters and ended up having my heart broken at the end.

I am a reader who thrives off the atmosphere a book gives of so I was destined to love this one. 61 HOURS is set in a small town called Bolton, Reacher has found himself stuck in this small snow covered town when his bus crashes, but was it an accident? I felt like I was there along with Reacher, I felt cold at times but all cosy and warm when he was welcomed into a few of the locals homes.

Reacher finds himself helping the locals find out what had really happened with the bus as well as with the mystery of a dead body. This is one of the easier, more entertaining reads of the series, with characters you're bound to fall in love with and a story line you won't want to stop reading about.

"I'll have plenty of time to read, after all this fuss is over."

The only negative of this story was that I guessed who the 'baddy' was and Jack Reacher didn't even figure that one out until the very end! Trust me, Reacher is smarter than little old me. Usually if I guessed the 'who done it' then I find myself being disappointed but I wasn't at all, the story itself did so much to keep me entertained and I found myself laughing out loud as well as gasping throughout the reading experience.

The books in the Joona Linna series for me are quite long and detailed, they're what some people might call slow burners. Whilst this is not usually what I look for in books, I seem to really enjoy this format in this series, I'm not sure why, whether it's the love for the stories, the characters, the atmosphere or the authors writing I don't know but I love going into these books.

Unfortunately THE SANDMAN was one of those typical, slow burning books that I hate. It was dragged out for way too long and because it was based on a killer that they kind of already have captured it got boring quickly. In my own opinion I think this book was at least 200 pages too long, the start is interesting, in the middle it falls flat then you find out the twist and all you really need to know from there is how it ends.

"It wasn't the people who were buried who were being punished, but those left behind."

I find that once you spend a major amount of time with the bad guy of the book, they start to become less scary and less interesting. This story wasn't as gripping as the others in the series and I was left feeling very disappointed.

I still can not fault Lars Kepler's writing and the atmosphere these books give off, I have a lot of space in my heart for these books and I'm looking forward to moving on to the next in the series, STALKER.

So I bought THE CRAFTSMAN, the novel that this short story is based on, it was all over Instagram, it was beautiful, it was intriguing and I just had to have it! I have since read Sharon Bolton's 1st book in the Lacey Flint series, NOW YOU SEE ME and I understand the love for her books. I loved NOW YOU SEE ME and cannot wait to carry on. For some reason though I still have not picked up THE CRAFTSMAN, it intimidates me a little and I'm not quite sure why, so I gave the short story ALIVE a try to see if it would get me in the mood and make me want to pick up THE CRAFTSMAN... it did not do that. It did the opposite.

I didn't like the person that is THE CRAFTSMAN, I have no interest in him at all and I think that's why I'm putting off the novel even more so now, am I really going to enjoy the story?

ALIVE gets 2 stars because you can not fault Sharon Bolton's writing, she is a great author and has some creative ideas but this did not stand out for me. I think that's the only reason this gets a low rating because I was left with a bad taste in my mouth after reading it and it does not appeal to me, I'm sure others will love it.

I did spend money on the beautiful hardcover of THE CRAFTSMAN though and I do still have a lot of faith in Sharon's stories that I will be trying it out, some time soon hopefully, so stay tuned for that review, I'm interested to see if my thoughts differ from the short story and the novel.
