The Project by Courtney Summers

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
I've read the book twice already and I still couldn't find myself to finish it. The first time I've read this was for book club from high school. I found the writing bland and the pace of the plot slow. I possibly wouldn't have minded that if the story kept me on my toes which it didn't. I also found it a challenge to connect to the main protagonist. After reading this novel a second time, my opinion hasn't changed a bit.

I remember crying to the movie with the same title as the novel, before even knowing it was based on a novel. Reading this afterwards didn't make it any less depressing. Despite the novel being fictional, it did enlightening me about the history on residential schools (which were very real) and how they still affect the indigenous population today.

I didn't know what to expect when reading this book, but I wasn't disappointed. I related to some aspects to both characters as an artist and introvert. I also liked how the characteristic of how the drawings related to the outcomes of the story. It was cute, reflective, and reminded me of my younger years.
