This was not at all what I expected. I was so excited when I got the ARC for it but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I liked the Sci fi and history aspects of it. You learn a lot about Haitian history and culture.
I understand the intention of the book, the focus of the health system and insurance. Their neglect of those in need. But nothing really happened and I was looking for more to happen; more showing then telling.

I didn't like that the affair was the main focus of this book.

This was a amazing read. This was my first read by Tiffany Jackson and I really loved how she put her own little twist to Carrie. I was jumping back and forth from reading it and listening to the audio. I ended up putting down ebook and just listened to it because the audio was just that good. There are so many narrators and they all did an amazing job.
The Weight of Blood tackles a lot of issues of racism and what people will do to survive this, sometimes cruel, world. There is conversation about blackness. I find this nuance conversation is talked about A LOT. I like that there are challenging conversations in this book between some of the characters.

I was strictly here for the plot. The plot was good, but the romance fell flat for me. I found the dialog between them was cheesy. I found myself scrunching my face up 😅. The faes in this book are basically like the mafia. They're all a little wild and crazy. I found myself trying to figure out wth I was reading. Their little world and laws were just crazy to me. Lol
Cate's brother has gotten himself into trouble with a man who basically owns the town. He's a filthy rich fae. She makes a deal with him to help save her brother.
The writing was easy to follow and flowed well. The ending got really good and left with a cliffhanger. Now I have to pick up book two.
