I loved everything about this. The common family dynamic. The way the story is told through the perspective of all of the characters. The subtle racism and sexism that permeates all of our lives but slowly wears us down to our breaking point. And on top of all of that, just a great page turner. I can't wait to see what Celeste Ng writes about next.
I loved the way Gilbert gets us to think of our creativity--not as something that we are a slave to but a coworker that is working alongside us.
I grabbed this book randomly looking for light weight chick lit...
The author does an awesome job devein G characters into people that I care about. There were times in the book where I couldn't exactly pinpoint why I was still reading. The plot was a little slow at times but my care for the characters kept me coming back. I love the way the book ended--finally picking up speed to the point where I woke up early this morning to finish the book before work.
In the end this is a book about longstanding, family like friendships.
