i went into this book with a good amount of hope based on the description blurb because the story idea itself sounds very interesting. but at about 30% in, i stopped enjoying it because the content started to feel more like being done for shock value. there was so much going on that it would get so confusing, especially with all of the character views changing often. by the second half it seemed like an entirely different book, especially the ending. i was just disappointed in it because the beginning did have great potential.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

this story is both oddly comforting yet deeply haunting. i can relate to the main character because i struggle heavily with mental health & even sometimes i find myself struggling to understand that my reality is my reality. i have on more than one occasion taken a moment to reassure myself that everything i’m seeing and experiencing is real. i know what it feels like to look at a reflection & be confused with what’s looking back at you. having that sense of living life but feeling like everything is off is already taunting enough so seeing how the main character is trying to navigate being aware that his reality is off is even more terrifying. you truly can feel the discomfort, the rage, the pain, the wanting, the desperation, just everything that seeps through these pages until the end. i found myself trying to help the main character with thinking of ways that he could try to fix things as if he could hear me too. with the way the story went, it was hard to predict how the story would end and in a good way. it really makes you sit back, think about life & shows you that no matter what we do, we will always end up where we belong.

this book is a fairly face-paced book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. it even had me looking over my shoulder just in case too LOL. per usual with Dani's books, I love that the main characters are older and still get to experience love in these ways. even if their journeys are rocky at times, it really shows that you can find your true love at any stage in your life. I enjoyed the dual POV because it really has you telling the characters to just spill their feelings already! excited to see this couple again in the future.

WOW, it is hard to put into words how I feel about this book & in such a good way too. this book was just so brokenly beautiful. the characters, their trauma, their conflicts, their everything. such well-rounded characters who come alive off the pages right from the beginning. this book is so emotional and will pull at your heart strings in the best & worst ways possible. it's gut wrenching & heartbreaking but mends you back together so nicely. their struggles are so real & the topics are so important that you can't help but feel what they feel. especially being able to see what they think through the dual POV, it really adds another layer to the realness of it. it really does show a light on how people handle addiction and mental health. I know the year just started but I know this is going to be in my top books of the year. absolutely recommend it 10000%, I am overwhelmed with feelings on it LOL.
