listen, I know my friends will think I only give five stars to VE Schwab because they’re my fave author (which true), but it’s because of how well developed and fleshed out not only the plots are, but also the settings and characters!

no matter whose character I was reading, they all had such distinct voices and quirks. I was obsessed the second I picked it up and I know this universe is going to be one that lives in my head rent free forever. the different Londons, the magic systems, EVERYTHING! love love love!!!!

also Kell and Lila have my entire heart (Rhy too) <3

I knew this book would hurt my heart, and believe me it did, but it made me fall in love with reading again! The characters have a special place in my heart, especially Matteo. Sobbed my eyes out, but so worth it.

honestly, I loved it! It got a lot of strong reactions out of me! I’m a slow reader but once I got to the second half of the book, I couldn’t set it down! Jude is so funny and I love her! Also Vivi our lesbian queen!

Ya know… I considered giving this 2 stars, but the ending absolutely ruined it all for me.

I had such high hopes for this book because for one, I’m a psychology student and second, I adore thrillers and mysteries! The plot sounded exciting which is why I was so disappointed to find the writing falling flat. The first 1/2 of the book was quite slow and had multiple moments where I was wondering why some things were even relevant. When the big twist occurred, I wasn’t shocked at all. I had suspected it from the beginning and honestly, it felt very obvious. Not to mention it all felt incredibly rushed at the end which left me a bit confused and just annoyed honestly.

I got so close to just not finishing it, but pushed through because everyone swore the twist made the book good. In reality it just was very predictable to me. I also didn’t entirely like how he portrayed the world of psychology and psychiatry and not to mention the handful of underlying misogynistic feelings behind certain female characters and their plot lines.

Overall, not my cup of tea. If you’re the type to guess twists in movies or other books, this probably isn’t the best book for you because the second you figure out what happens early on, the rest of the book will drag and just be irritating and confusing. However, if you want an easy read and aren’t good at picking up on twists, go ahead and give it a shot. I can see where people enjoyed it, but honestly I couldn’t bring myself to like it even a little.
