A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

I loved how this felt like a Khalessi/Khal Drogo backstory for much of the first half. I think this has unique and interesting takes on the gods and their gift giving but the pacing feels off. The end comes abruptly while the passing in the last third is slow paced.

A fascinating look at the politics surrounds pockets. While something so innocuous shouldn’t be so representative, I was surprised to learn just how important they’ve been.

Only now realize that this is book 2, thus they can totally be read out of order. A high-strung divorcee meets a Hawaiian beach bum as they are thrown together to plan her sister's wedding. While they are both avoiding their past decisions, they find that they might be able to make new decisions together as they navigate their new relationship.

Love it. Love a plus size heroine getting a big buff hot man. And that she’s smart and witty and he enjoys those things.

When bad things happen in life, even with good friends it’s often hard to navigate the difficult stuff because no one really gets it. If luck would have it we meet someone who’s been there and gets it, and sometimes that person becomes a figment toward our new life. Through heartbreak and hidden signs characters cross paths and navigate what it means to do life.

This book was wild. It starts out slow with a woman talking about leaving her religious upbringing only to be invited back for the wedding of her best friend and her ex. While she’s there, she continues to investigate her mother the scream queen all while sneakily trying to find her father. Things become strange when no one seems to know how she got invited to the wedding. Beware, this is a slow burn.
You Could Be So Pretty by Holly Bourne

This was a tough read about the beauty industry, power and masculinity through the views of two teens on opposite sides of beauty culture trying to make it through their formative years. This is so spot on an accurate that it’s difficult to read even as an adult but I’m glad I finished it as the last 30% were really excellent.

As part of the Quest family you are supposed to trust no one and be able to steal anything. This gets put to the test when the mother is taken and the daughter must join the gambit to get her back, but maybe we need to trust each other to save ourselves.

The continuation of the series. The competition has ended and things did not go as planned. The MCs must reckon with each other and the growing resistance of their people.
