The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty
I love that mothering is at the center of this adventure story. Amina is over 40 and returning to her life as a pirate.
What About Men? by Caitlin Moran
Both totally like her and very different. This has spawned great conversation about how to be a man and more specifically how we as a society teach men to be. Quick witted and smart.
Iron Gold by Pierce Brown
I love this series but this book took me forever. I get that it’s world building but it was a lot. I feel like character development wasn’t as good so I got confused about the Raa family.
Unlikely Queen by T.L. Smith
A great read for picking up and putting down as it becomes repetitious and the plot seems to stall.
The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant
Not a fave. I wanted more character depth and just didn’t get it.
Double-Decker Dreams: A Novel by Lindsay MacMillan
Really cute rom com about thinking you know what you want until what you want comes along.
Starsight by Brandon Sanderson
World building for book 3. I wasn’t wowed by this one in the way I was by the first.
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
Not normally my style but this is smart and an interesting look at whiteness allyship. An excellent job is done of pointing out privilege and the ways it’s taken for granted.
City of Stolen Magic by Nazneen Ahmed Pathak
This is excellent on audio. As a white reader it was useful to hear the language and words of magic in the language with what I hope is an accurate accent.
In the past Jinn and humans had children and then a war broke out between the groups. While many Jinn and part Jinn go into hiding, they are being taken and used for their magic by humans who want their magic.
