I am OBSESSED. This book has the perfect balance between the plot/politics of their world and the character arc’s/backstories. Throughout learning about these characters, with their troubling pasts and in turn reasoning for their actions, you start to root for them—even if what they do seems bad on the surface. The plot and how Snow uses the politics in her favor had me gripped from the start. And the romance?? OH LORD! The banter?? The pining?? The angst?? I was [in the best way possible] in AGONY! And don’t even get me started on the plot twist at the end…I was BAMBOOZLED!
This story was so heartbreakingly powerful and raw. Following two generations of immigrants from Pakistan and their trials and tribulations into what it takes to have the “American Dream”. It touches on generational trauma, grief, addiction, helplessness, prejudice, and how far one will go to persevere and forgive despite all that has been put in their way. This book touched my heart on such a deep level. It gave me such an insightful understanding of how one might struggle when faced with travesty in a position without privilege. It also helped me heal and process some of my grief that I have held onto.
