Honest and beautiful. As a fan of drag race, Ru’s life story puts so much into context. She is quite flawed but sees the world in a unique way that I really enjoyed peaking into.

Unfortunately just didn’t work for me in any way. The main character had almost no personality, there was no style in the writing and the ending was.. comically bad. I was waiting for some sort of twist or reveal or anything interesting to happen but alas…

Edit: went to book club and gained some appreciation based on our discussion, i’ll throw it another star

pretty standard true crime book but exciting because i know all the places. I could really imagine the scene at CVS on cap circle & miccosukee.

Wow this book was wild and I have a lot of thoughts. The amount of material that the author covered here was kind of a lot for the size of the book in terms of plot & relevant social commentary. There are some things I think could have been worked out further, like the character arcs and development and it got a little preachy at times. But overall this was so interesting and complex that i hardly mind.
I do have a couple leftover questions… why are Kingdom kids always two years older? what’s with the polos? I listened to the book so maybe i missed some things. or maybe it was intentionally a little vague. Anyway loved it and will be reading more from this author. At least the horror novels 😭

I agree with sentiments that this would have worked better as a collection of essays or some kind of memoir. The actual sociology discussion was very surface level and did not seem backed up by convincing evidence.
