the pacing of this book was great. selfishly, i wish it were longer. but the characters were well-rounded, even if the characterization wasn't too deep - you still get a good sense of who they are, although there could've been more; we only scratched the surface in terms of who they are.

the magical portion of this story and the mystery needing to be solved, along with the historical time period of this story was perfectly placed. it was wonderful to read, at times heart wrenching in terms of remembering how gays used to be subjected to electroshock for being gay.

i thought the ending was poetic, if not bittersweet, but reminds us that we need to put everything into life that we can because we don't know how much we have. also that i'd rather have a good thing and know it'll end rather than to not have at all. better to have loved & lost than not loved at all, i believe?

loved this one. def recommend.

i enjoyed this book. it was so beautifully written. heartbreaking and hopeful. two people who loved each other during harsh & dangerous times. how circumstances can tear you apart or bring you together. how you can love someone and let them go and still carry them with you.

this was gay af! written so well and poetically. i enjoyed it & feel like this will be reread in the fall/winter
dark emotional tense medium-paced

the story started off thrillingly enough and the mystery that continued to unravel was almost as exciting. there was a part at the end that felt intense and wild which was fun. but the ending was a bit predictable. i guess no one does a paranormal thriller like simone st james.

this was a fascinating read. i think we’re all familiar with the popular perception of sociopaths as people who can’t be helped, are violent & unfeeling, and people who remain on the fringes of society. it was interesting  to get a glimpse into somebody’s mind who wants to be good, wants to heal, wants to help others with her condition & to help the societal perception of sociopaths.

patric’s story was thrilling in certain ways & troubling in others. but i found myself inspired by her ability to seek acceptance of herself & have a “normal” life. parts of the story seemed repetitive in terms of how her life kept following the same patterns before she chose differently.

really enjoyed this one.
