Parasol Against the Axe by Helen Oyeyemi
Words change lives, and lives change words. Beyond that, I’m not sure if I’m sure of anything here!

Reads as a relatively simple book but isn’t. I know I’ll be thinking about this book, it’s characters, and it’s commentary on our natural world for a long time. Really and truly loved these characters—Gil, the family he moves next to, the the friends he finds and keeps—and I’m sad to part with them.
