I absolutely HATED this book. The novel follows nothing more than a moody, self righteous, teenage boy, with a holistically terrible sense of personal morale. And yet, this book, in my opinion, provides an impressively accurate depiction of the teenage boy’s unfiltered thought process. The childish notions of omniscience and self-importance serves to precisely characterize the often immature mentality of young men. I can think of many boys in my life that have acted in the same ways as Holden, similarly proceeding to try and disguise their actions as ultimately virtuous. Therefore Holden’s character, at least in my opinion, serves as a sort of gateway into the true nature of said boys and their justifications for otherwise juvenile and flagrant actions.

I respect the author of this book SO much. The amount of research and cross-referencing that went into the production of this biography is extremely impressive. For an author to be able to take a character from history and entirely transform a reader’s impression and entire opinion towards said character is truly inspiration.
