Not invested enough to be honest! Non-fiction can be hit or miss for me and this one didn't hit.

Normal people say, I can't imagine feeling so bad I'd genuiney want to die. I do not try and explain that it isn't that you want to die. It is that you know you are not supposed to be alive, feeling a tiredness that powders your bones, a tiredness with so much fear. The unnatural fact of living is something you must eventually fix.

Could not recommend this book enough if I tried.

Fundamentally nothing wrong with this book. I do understand why people love it. It just reads a bit too much like YA, which isn't my vibe personally.

It took me a good half of the book to start to feel immersed in it, but I do think the payoff was worth it. A story about inheritance, family and relying on others to find your true self.

I have no idea why I'm not clicking with this book. I'd been waiting for it to be released for so long, which I normally don't get like for books. It feels unnatural to be throwing in the towel, especially when I can't pinpoint the reason why.

I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I wouldn't say it challenged my stance on the main subject matter as the author seems to have intended, but each twist felt like a knife in the gut.

One moment this favourite sibling, the second eldest boy, the sixteen-year-old and the most calm and beloved of that family, was making his way over the street towards his nervous, panicked brother, to discourse with him, once again to try to soothe him in his wild nuclear distraction. Next, this teenager was on the ground with his head completely gone. Not ever, not even after the commotion died down, did anybody find it.

I genuinely cannot believe I managed to finish this book. Equal parts captivating and utterly confusing, I've never felt such relief to close a book for the final time whilst equally wishing it not to end.

I completely understand why this wouldn't be for everyone (the prose is absolutely killer throughout), but I think in a market over-saturated with accounts of how society was during the Troubles, this book breathes new life into such a turbulent time.
