Faces We Love is a beautiful and poignant love letter to Shanghai, and the people that live there.
This collection of 100 photographs takes you on a journey through the city’s narrow alleyways and secluded backstreets, showcasing the beauty and joy behind everyday moments and people that are often overlooked.
The photographs are so incredibly touching and evocative, and I found myself drawn into each and every one of them, imagining the smells, the sounds, the colours. The photos capture the small natural moments – a touch, a smile, a connection – which shows the essence of humanity.
I have two sons, aged 4 and 9, who have an incredible curiosity about the world, and they adored this book, studying each photo and noticing little details that I would have missed. It opened up conversations around different cultures and traditions but kept coming back to how essentially people need the same thing – love and friendship. They especially liked the photos of the children.
The photos I have taken for this post do not adequately represent how truly stunning these photos are in reality.
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this tour – this will be a book that remains on our shelves for many years to come, and will be leafed through whenever we need a reminder that the world may be vast, but the needs of humans are small and all we really need is connection.
