I learned so much about the role of women in the Muslim faith from this book. Ali is a woman of great strength and courage and her story is truly inspiring to read.
The author really opens himself up to share his and his family's experience as they learn to cope with his daughter's diagnosis of bipolar disorder. It gives an insider's perspective of what the disorder can look like and the roads taken through diagnosis and treatment.
Although the beginning and ending are a little slow, the middle hooked me in. I was on the edge of my seat as the mystery unfolded - especially when there were unexpected plot twists. Hang in there even if you find the beginning a little slow - it will be worth it!!!
I enjoyed the uniqueness of this book, but did not love it whole-heartedly like some. You really have to be focused to keep up with all the switches in time.
An interesting look at life during the turn of the last century. It was fascinating to me to learn more about the corruption that existed on so many levels throughout the city of Chicago. I was also highly intrigued with the lifestyles that the madams lived and the regard with which they were held. A nonfiction book that reads like fiction!!!
This book is definitely a classic well-written Dan Brown book. However, after having read the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, his books are starting to all seem a little similar in nature. He needs to keep switching it up with more books like Deception Point. Although is may not sound like I am recommending it, it is a very interesting, informative book with lots of twists and turns that keep you engaged.
An interesting departure for John Grisham to turn to nonfiction, but a very welcome one. This story definitely makes one think about ones views on our justice system and the implications for guilty verdicts.
It's not that John Grogan's story in anything unusual or inspiring, it is merely that he has such a fabulous style of writing that you can't help but he engaged in all the events of his life as they unfold on paper.
A very well written book, but very dark and depressing. This is not the book to read if you need a pick-me-up.
