I'm giving this one five stars not because it's the best book I've ever read, but because reading it made me feel like I was watching the most tropiest Hallmark movie to ever trope. And sometimes that's exactly what you need.

I didn't hate it, but, it was lacking. There are more than a few grammatical errors and overall, I kept feeling like I was reading a rough draft. The two leads had no chemistry and the book really would have benefited from being 50 pages longer to give them more of a chance to build their supposed attraction to one another before moving on to the embassy portion of the story.

3.5 stars. Enjoyable and made me laugh a few times. Written in first person from two different views so that took a couple chapters to get used to. Wished it was longer so I could get to know the characters better.

The Plight Before Christmas by Kate Stewart

A bit absurd at times and the characters all seemed far younger than the late 30s/early 40s they were supposed to be. The family dynamics felt very real though and with the suspension of a little disbelief, this is a fun and entertaining read.

Was the plot believable? Absolutely not. But sometimes you just want to be swept away in some holiday Hallmark style magic. Cute. Made me laugh. Clean in both spice and language.

I loved the magical elements in the book which is why it gets four instead of three stars. While cute, and predictably predictable, I just really kind of hated Charlie's family. Like, who marries their sister's bully?
