This book was very slow-going and there is little that I can't stand more than solution by confession. And then Grant thinks he deserves a vacation! Other reviews suggest that Tey gets better so maybe I'll try another, but this was not a promising start.

This book was good when Brusatte was talking about dinosaurs, it contained the best, most in-depth description of what happened during the meteor-strike extinction I have ever read. But when Brusatte starts talking about being a paleontologist, it is evident how much of a boys club paleontology is. He talks about getting drunk with his colleagues, many of whom are described as rock star-like. The few women who made the book were described in much more reserved ways and somehow never ended up at these post-dig drinking binges. Brusatte talks freely about his mentors and the opportunities he was given by other men in the field, but I wonder how many of these opportunities were open to his female colleagues.
