Everything Under by Daisy Johnson
Can cis white millennial authors stop using transness as plot device or way to modernize a story?!?
Daisy Johnson: "I'm not a trans writer and I think that people should turn to trans writers. But i hope that by writing trans characters I'm doing some kind of good." and then goes on to the misgender and deadname the character for 160 pages and mention their genitalia.
Eli Cugini: "Including transness is good, but doing it casually without examining these cis ways of seeing risks perpetuating the exact same standards that casual inclusion of transness is supposed to oppose"
Also putting that it is a re-telling of the Oedipus myth on the jacket, I literally can't with this book. No stars...actually negative 2 stars.

Marrow Island by Alexis M. Smith
one a scale of one to conifer needles, stump rot, burnt lichen, fungi spores-How PNW is this book? Earthquakes are scary, islands are cool, I loved the world building.
Of Cattle and Men by Ana Paula Maia
enjoyed my time in Edgar Wilson's morality. maybe one day a lemming will fly or in this case a cow.
People Want to Live by Farah Ali
I learned how little I really know about everyday life in pakistan. wasn't a story i didn't enjoy.
My Favorite Girlfriend Was a French Bulldog by Legna RodrÃguez Iglesias
1.5
agree with others that i did not understand a single one of these 15 chapters. the description of the book on the inside cover feels misleading re: connected stories, multigenerational portrait of Cuba, queerness, political, feminist, immigrant. I did not learn anything about identity or Cuba which was disappointing.
Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn't My Rapist by Cecilia Gentili
4.5
the voice is so clear and so strong. graphic and upsetting content matter but feels written from a healed place. I love letters.
