The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan

i won't lie, giving up on this series sucks :( i've spoken about this before, but wot is greatly frustrating for me. while reading the books in this series, i can see inklings of where this story is going to go, the seeds being sowed, and the trajectory the characters are going down, and i do really like it. i can see so much potential in this series. i just know i'd LOVE the direction the story is heading in, especially Rand's arc as the dragon. it's a shame about the writing.
jordan's writing is the equivalent of watching paint dry. it's verbose, lacklustre, and boring. at no point while reading these three chunky books did i ever actually feel propelled to turn the page, because i know it'll just be more exhausting descriptions. his writing reminds me of sanderson (who is also renowned for having a very simplistic, uninspired style of writing). i'm just so bummed because i really do see the potential, but the fact that i haven't even reached the infamous wot slog and I'm already having this much difficulty reading it suggests it's just not the series for me, unfortunately :(
as a fantasy fan, i think I'll always admire and have respect for the series. and maybe i'll try to tackle it again when i'm older. but right now, there's a million other fantasy books i'd rather be reading instead.
