Thank you, Goodreads, for the ARC giveaway copy!

4.5. What an adorable read! Catching Feelings has some of my favorite things: a college setting, incredible life-changing friendships, wonderment and anxiety about the future, and head-over-heels romance.

To say I enjoyed reading this story would be underselling it. I giggled and sighed throughout the entire book and adored the chemistry between Cassidy and Elias. I found their story and relationship realistic while at the same time dreamy enough to want to be with them in their every interaction. Putting them, along with the rest of the great supporting characters, in a university setting was a great choice, as we see them struggle with becoming adults and making choices with emotional logic.

The only thing that put me off sometimes was the writing. I could have done without the obvious commentary (i.e. "God, I love being punctual"/ "He's a great guy" and in literally the next sentence "he's a great guy'). I with it had been a bit more tightened up and descriptive. But, overall, it didn't take away from the story, it just distracted from some of the things happening on the page.

Thank you for Goodreads for the ARC!

Melania Luisa Marte has the voice of an entire generation. This astounding collection of poems is empowered, emotive, and engaging. The topics explored in her simple yet poignant poetics speak to the most intimate fears and desires of the heart. I loved how she talks about her intersecting identities, as an Afro-Latina, a woman, a lover, a poet, a daughter… in each poem, she explores one facet of herself or delves deep into each individual emotion and invites the reader to do the same.

I found the collection compelling and the themes she explored very raw and intense, without holding herself back in her lyrical prose or her vulnerability. Not only does each word speak to the desire for equity, equality, and equilibrium but it removes the possibility of being unaware of the environment that surrounds oneself.

The characters recked of privilege and overall sucked. He is controlling and has so many problematic elements (including but not limited to being condescending and being blurry with consent). It's a no from me.
