The Wicked King by Holly Black

Once again, entertaining and gripping but leaves things to be desired in terms of my emotional connection with plot and character.
Jude is as insufferable as ever, literal definition of a petulant child with a god complex. The book is one scheme and plot and betrayal after another and Jude stupidly never realizes that she doesn't always have the upper hand.
The characters leave a lot to be desired in this series, but they are entertaining, and that was all I could ask for in these trying times.

I am too overcome with feeling to accurately describe what this book means to me and the world at large. It's been a long time since I felt so connected to people that only exist within the confines of a front and back cover. I felt so terrified hurtling towards the end of this series because I didn't want them to all go away. I didn't want things to end and go back to the way they were before I started reading. But I did it, and it was good, and it was happy. Maggie Steifvater said this was a story about identity, about finding yourself, and there's no better way to describe the Raven Cycle. This is the most beautiful book I've ever read. It is the ultimate example of craftsmanship. Nothing will ever come close. I will hold it close forever.

This was one of those books that I read voraciously because the main character was treated like crap. The best part of the book is when Cardan reveals why he dislikes her so much, if you know you know ;). The main character, Jude, was a little insufferable at times but I think she just fell victim to the 'female main character in a novel about the fae' trope. There was plenty about this book to enjoy and I am immediately searching for the second one.
