Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Finney Boylan
5.0
i absolutely LOVED this book.
It’s so beautiful and fascinating.
i’d probably give it a 9/10
it had the appeal of strong emotional topics and relationships (of all kinds) but also includes the suspense and curiosity of a murder trial. very much my style.
i also really liked the discussion of gender, race, and sexuality, abuse, etc. in this book. many of the people complaining about that in their reviewing are those who are likely just closed minded. (so many people just… quit reading halfway through??? like huh???)
regardless,
this book made me feel so many emotions!! there’s so much beauty and sadness all combined into one. love and heartbreak run rampant and it’s so incredibly impactful.
also the timeline is so carefully and wonderfully structured! i love books that switch from past to present, especially when it’s done so well! i feel like it does a perfect job of keeping a reader on their toes but doesn’t drag on too much.
there’s some good topics in this book as well. about all kinds of topics, from beekeeping to fencing to hockey. even the judicial system! also other things that would be spoilers haha. anyway.
i feel like this book was masterfully written. it’s not perfect and there were some tiny things that bugged me, but not nearly enough for me to be able to give it 4/5 stars.
i highly highly highly recommend!!
