was this ~objectively~ one of christina lauren’s best book? no. but it was fun as hell. the spice slayed, and the relationship was so sweet. i love when a man is just completely bewildered by a woman. and will was definitely bewildered. i did have a few problems tho: - sometimes will was sexist (i honestly barely minded tho) - the first sex scene at her parents’ house felt kinda coercive - they def would have gotten in trouble for skipping work without saying anything
thank you to net galley and the publisher for an arc :)
I liked this! it was sweet, had good pacing, and the third act conflict made sense to me. my two critiques are that I don't think summer's character was as fleshed out as it could have been (like sometimes she was a pushover and sometimes she was super strong-willed. where's the consistency?), and sometimes the writing was a tad cringe. This is an arc tho, so maybe some of those lines will get fixed. A line I did really hate though was when Nathan's brother told him to get a wife before he got fat and ugly. That made me super uncomfortable, and it felt kinda icky. Not a bad book, though. The first 75% especially was really strong.
i think i have decided that regine abel is not for me. i just really dont like how she writes dialogue, and the other elements dont make up for how much i dislike the dialogue.
this was very very fun! the characters were great together and i had a smile on my face for most of it. my only issues were a few cringey lines and sophie’s issue with lili at the end. that was like so weird and felt like a really unrealistic way to react to something. and larrys reaction to that was even crazier.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to net galley and the publisher for an arc of this !!!!!!!!
cat sebastian is everything to me. this book was a 5-star-read from the very first page. it was, admittedly, pretty similar to WCBSG, but that book is one of my all time favorites, so I'm not complaining. I usually don't love third person present tense, but somehow it just works so magically in these books. the writing was also so funny. like, this is an emotional book, but I still laughed out loud multiple times. it's a grumpy/sunshine story, but I didn't even notice until like halfway through because this book does not feel trope-y at all. I mean, some trope-y books can be good, but this book has you read classic tropes without even realizing it because you're so immersed in the reading experience. the characters are great. the found family is great. the epilogue is one of the best epilogues I have ever read. one thing I am sad about, though, is that I am now finished with cat sebastian's backlist. heartbreaking. I could read a new book from her every single day for the rest of my life, and most of them would probably be 5-star-reads. can't wait for whatever she does next.
