The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams

This was one of my favorite books as a kid and tbh, I think it’s why I fear nothing (except when I run sometimes). My dad bought it for me for Christmas since I didn’t have it anymore and rereading it was a joy.

Not scary at all. It was an all year read for me (I was always an independent reader) but I can see it being a staple routine for spooky season especially for kids with a lot of nervousness.

This was my first real dark academia book I think. People don’t like to count in my dreams I hold a knife but who cares? Point is: BANGER.
Pretentious as hell. The whole time I just kept like… bitch we get it. You went to Yale. You yourself the author went to Yale. But after like… 40% I got over it and had one hell of a ride. we’ve got ghosts. we’ve got hot guys. we’ve got libraries. weve got magic. we’ve got drugs TW. We’ve got a brutal SA out of nowhere that is a HUGE TW.

The main issues in this book are ghosts, murder, and EVERYONE has a major attitude problem which… yeah valid. Rich college assholes. There are twists and turns I did not see coming anywhere at all. I did not know there was a second book when I picked this up with the atlas six because I didn’t want to do two series at once. HA. There are to be 3 and one hasn’t even been written yet. Sick. See Hell Bent review.

Loved this. 2024 was the year that I learned I was bi and not a lesbian and this book definitely helped. I didn’t know who I wanted more.

honestly some of them are pretty insufferable

she definitely knows Yale like the back of her hand. The map was unhelpful and I didn’t really care. Maps are just for the sake of having them these days.
W 8
solid. Nothing to write home about. Some good dialogue. Style was good.
P 7
they want her to go to Yale but they expect her to perform like a Yale student and they’re like oh yeah this is your only chance. Be smart or we will kick you out.
I 8
i liked it a lot and am genuinely looking forward to rereading when the third book comes out.
L 10
everything sounded like it could happen even if it was far fetched. Who is to say there aren’t secret societies?

it was good for the most part. The UA SA really brought me out of it for a long time and I struggled to finish after that. Pacing was difficult in the beginning but once it got into it it was really good. I think book one and two could’ve made a really really fantastic tome instead of two separate stories.

Immediately following the Ninth House my read of this book was a lot. I got a job while trying to read this book and just remember being half way through like I know someone dies. I just want to get to the dying part. Why is it taking so long? But as soon as it was over I wanted the next one. Right then. I would suggest reading this one through the library or on an app for free or cheap to ensure you’ll like it because you’ll either want all three or you’ll regret buying it. I can’t imagine many people would just think this was an okay time.

You will not like anyone. That’s the point. If you can’t hate all the characters and still like a book this isn’t for you. Most of it will not make sense because the people haven’t made sense of it yet and the unfolding of it all is slow. There are SO MANY things to guess. So many mysteries to get wrong. With eight main characters who all get just about equal page time, it’s easy to do. I’m not a critical reader so I didn’t guess any of them but it was still so fun to try! I loved this book once I got to the end. I truly suggest having the funds and accessibility to get all three at the same time.

I hate them thank you.

Honestly the worst part of all do this except for anything Gideon related
W 10
It would be a 9 for an established author but for a first time author I loved every choice
P 7
Intentionally it sets up the other books but as one book it there were way way way too many questions at the end. Nothing is settled. Do not think any of it will be or you will be as disappointed as me.
I 7
Liked it. So many highlights. It is a commitment to read through again.
L 7
With unanswered questions comes holes in plot. Confusion. It was jarring to finish a book like that. If I had read it the year it came out I doubt I would’ve been excited to wait so long to finish.

I wanted everyone to die so bad. Every pov shift and I was extremely ready for everyone to die.

I will attempt to read this book only because I am not excited about having to wait for the third book in Ninth House/Hell Bent and need more bitches going to hell to endure that degree

Don’t forget to read this when it comes out.

You did not read this book yet!!!!

Do not include in total books read bc you don’t pay attention.

This looks so good.

Please buy this.

Don’t be stupid and forget.

(This is not a review. It’s a reminder but that 5 star is staying regardless. I’ve never been more excited for a premise of a book in my life. Even if it doesn’t hit for me, it’ll still be a vibe. I can feel it.)

I did not have a great time with this book entirely for personal reasons. I recognize it’s a good book and that there are people who would love it but it just wasn’t for me. There was so much toxicity which I knew would happen but towards the end there was so much overwhelming from every angle and I found out I don’t like to be overwhelmed like that in my books.

The love story is intense. There are times when I ached to be loved that way which is terrifying. It brought me back to too many bad people in my life. I will give my cawpile in regards to the technical aspects of the book and not my enjoyment of it.

One extra star because this book came out on mine and Jenna Marbles birthday, a day in which nothing ever occurs. I miss her. I hope she’s doing okay.

Read this book. Can’t tell you a lot about it but I remembered having an okay time and hollering a couple times about something or other. There are no real facts about this book I can remember so I can’t even dignify it with a rating. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t memorable. I didn’t get the second book but I don’t regret reading it.

exactly what’s on the tin

It’s Christmas. It’s aliens. It’s who is going to survive. Fun as hell. Read in a couple hours. Perfect for the first big snow storm of the year. I really liked this. I hope the author continues writing little ditties like this.

C 10. Truly was trying to make sense where sense shouldn’t be made. It’s such a short story but it made me wonder from the first second until the last. Norman is the goodest boy. Poor things. All of them. Truly shocking and sad at some points.
A 10. Felt snowed in. Felt cold and trapped. Unsure. Unsafe. No escape. 98 freaking pages. I can’t get over that.
W 9. It is no Shakespeare but you’re not coming to this story for that. You’re coming for snowy alien vibes and you get it for sure. It felt almost YA at points. Maybe it was? I feel terrible for not giving this a ten because it feels harsh. Sergio… nope. I’m changing my mind. This is a ten. It was what it needed to be nothing more nothing less. I didn’t feel like it lacked anything. WAIT! We didn’t find out what the Christmas presents were…. I said I’d give it two stars if we didn’t but that’s too harsh bc this was a fucking good time. I’ll leave it at 9. One point off for presents not being explored. The PACING dudes. It was brilliant. I read it on kindle so idk how it felt to physically hold it and read but it felt like every time I scrolled there was new action, new things happening, there was zero boring moments in a novella thank you very much Sergio. I think I love you. I can’t wait to read the rest but if you give me another Christmas present and don’t open it I’ll pirate your books.
P 9. Felt slightly unresolved but honestly how do you resolve a real world alien invasion without intergalactic relations and such? The ending only was a 9/10 the rest of the plot was perfect.
I 7. I think this will be one I come back to in the wintertime mostly to bump my numbers with a book I can read in two hours but also because what a blast! (No pun intended)
L 10. What logic is needed is done correctly. Every choice by every person makes complete sense for their character and it PISSES ME OFF that I can’t write like this.
E 10. Breckin Meyer’s two enthusiastic thumbs up. Idk how to gif on here but it when I figure it out, this one is getting a gif!

THIS IS A TRILOGY?! I AM SO TIRED OF BEING ASSAULTED WITH THE FIRST BOOKS IN A SERIES UNEXPECTEDLY!!! I got this for Christmas. BLACK VAMPIRES?!? HELL YEAH. The physical book has ZERO indication of continuing this series. At least in the version I got. I have so many series rn and I wanted a one and done story. This is not what I got.

But do I care?

NOPE.

Listen, there is unapologetic everything in this book. You will find yourself fighting not to love murderers. (Unrelated — My phone autocorrected to Murfreesboro and that is not correct. If you are from Murfreesboro I would say this is probably not the book you’re going to pick up in the first place). You will find yourself wishing for murder and suicide and betrayal and you will find yourself pissed off and upset when those things happens. Morals do not exist in this book. The morals posed in here are just black. There is no grey really. People will be explaining their reasoning and I’m like hell yeah! You do that! And then two seconds later, you’re like ‘oh wait that’s… so very wrong and illegal and will send you straight to hell… but go off’.

The cliffhanger of this book is so fucking frustrating. I’ve never been so pissed in my life. I immediately told my family (who did not care because they do not read) and then had to come tell everyone. ENDING ON ONE GODDAMN WORD?! Noooooo. Pissed. This is not how I wanted my year to end at all.

I am not a comprehensive reader at all and I very very rarely see visuals in my head. I’m straight vibes and plot points and as soon as it’s over my head be empty and maybe it was the very white sounding narrator who is not white at all but I did not feel blackness in this book like others. It wasn’t mentioned on every page. It was mentions of braids and Africa that I had to keep reminding myself they were black.

The “sexual content” was mild at best. I had the audiobook going while my mom was walking around and I was almost embarrassed until it was over and then I was like… hm. Is this a YA book? Then I found out yes. Yes this is a YA book but it doesn’t feel like it at all. Other than she’s taking a class and the age gap of you know like… centuries… other than that it is VERY dark. After realizing it is YA I am honestly shocked by everything. How is the sex scene the most tame compared to everything?

This book feels like the point of view of all villains. I kept feeling like I was living with Doofensmurtz or however you spell it from Phineas and Ferb but if he was very serious and hot. I don’t know why I’m writing so much about this book and saying absolutely nothing at the same time.

—> Kidan is a crazy bitch tbh and all she wants is her sister back and that’s the ONLY thing she wants. Until it isn’t the only thing she wants. She finds herself living with a vampire who is supposed to inherit her estate and all the power that comes with it who also is the one that kidnapped her sister. She hates him. He hates her. They attempt to kill each other multiple times. They take enemies to lovers very seriously in this book.

The side characters are all for a purpose obviously but in this story they are still very enjoyable when they are supposed to be and utterly repulsive when they are supposed to be.

Very good book, honestly.

C 8 room to grow obviously
A 7 the school was okay. The map was more interesting. The house was a cool place to be.
W 9 people felt really mean, really wrong, really scary. You felt like you were losing your mind and gaining clarity with them
P 10 I. AM. INVESTED.
I 7 not ready to reread but fun time.
L 10 weirdly everything made sense.
