I revisit this book so often that I feel I could recite it from memory.

Barker truly bottled lightning with this.

This book blends teenage drama with the supernatural in the same vein as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that’s not a compliment that I give out lightly.

With a compelling cast of characters, bloody moments of fun & fear and more plot twists that a M. Night movie, this book needs to be read!

I really struggled to get through such a short book but with such unlikeable characters and not enough tension, I was easily distracted. The strength in this book solely relies on the author being able to conjure up some strong imagery.

Horrific in all the right ways. I laughed, I cried, I felt nauseated and I was scared. This is the future of the genre looks like.

Compelling, emotional, twisted and fun. It was a delightful peek into a subgenre of horror that I’m not familiar with. Music plays a huge part of this book and like the best songs, it takes you on an emotional journey in a short space of time.

The X-men meets Stranger Things via The Craft in this fun, action-packed horror.

With plenty of gore, emotional moments and fast-paced action, this book left me wanting more!

As a person who used to roll up their duvet as a kid and pretend they were riding Falkor, this book was everything I needed & more. A stunning love letter to the greatest fantasy films from the 80s, I was hooked from beginning to end. Probably my favourite book that I’ve read this year.

This book reminded me a lot of the earlier seasons of Black Mirror & just like the show, I was left feeling thrilled, horrified and contemplative. LaRocca once again proves that they are a master of mind-bending horror.

Horrifying, claustrophobic & tragic…what a book!

The menace of the unknown and the claustrophobic confines of the Trieste are utilised to raise the fear, tension and paranoia to unbearable heights. Rarely does a book scare me in ways that this did.
