Maybe this was a bad introduction to China Miéville for me.
I knew this was a YA story when I picked it up, but it was... a bit younger than I expected. A few reviews mentioned it being whimsical--It is. A little TOO whimsical for my taste.

I am probably well past the age at which I would have liked this. I think, if I'd been twelve, I would have loved it (except maybe for the length).
The subverted Chosen One story--as far as I got in it--is nice and fresh (and would have probably gone unappreciated at 12), but honestly, I just couldn't get into a world that was THIS out there. Everything was too much, too drawn out, too... again, whimsical.

I did enjoy the writing style though, and will definitely check out Miéville's other books. But this one was definitely not for me.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
Felt it was kind of boring. Didn't like the diary entries.

Sweet story. A bit slow for my taste but very cute nonetheless. Liked the characters and the little comics in between.

Estuvo ok.

This was... interesting. I liked the ambience and description, the whole setting was pretty nicely set up. That said, I didn't really like most of the characters, a handful of things didn't make sense, and the interesting parts only started towards the end of the book.
Not sure I will read the rest.
