I was shocked that I loved this book as much as I did. I'd enjoyed listening to the Whimbrel house series while driving for work and decided to give another book by this author a go, and the premise of this one seemed unique.

I did love it, I normally only listen to audiobooks when driving but I found myself really seeking out other times to listen to this one. There were a few times that I was genuinely shocked by the twists, which doesn't happen often.

I even loved the ending though I wouldn't scoff at a book 2. I do wish there had been some things fleshed out more in the last like 10% of the book, there was so much potential there and it just didn't quite live up to it. However, I still loved it.

While, by the end of the book I was completely enraptured and hanging on to find out what was going to happen next, the first half was rough. It was so slow, and just not engaging. However once you breakthrough that 50% mark it starts to build and WOW is the payoff beautiful. If this book had been the second half alone it would've been 5 stars, but since I paused reading this twice because I couldn't get through the first half, and the only reason I picked it up the third time was because my mother promised it got better in the second half.

I sometimes find epilogues to be cheesy but this one was perfection. Truly the perfect ending.

I wanted to love this one truly. The premise, the unique world and storyline, so much potential. It just didn't hit it for me, the world building was just WOW though and I feel like we're setting up for what could end up being a really great series overall, but similar to Neon gods for dark Olympus, the main couple just falls flat. I loved Evelyn, a curvy, impulsive, spunky but gentle hearted witch, and wanted to like Bowen (He gave me major Chaol from TOG vibes though) but he was just too one note really. The relationship progressed so fast and while Evelyn is impulsive it didn't really fit that she'd go all in so quickly.

All that said the smut be smutting, the magic use in those scenes is just exceptional, and the gender/ sexuality inclusivity is exceptional as always.

So to summarize: not my favorite but I see big potential as this series continues.

I love everything Carissa writes, and the Crowns of Nyaxia world lives rent free in my head all the time, but this may be a new favorite.

The characters are brilliant, I only wish we had gotten some chapters from Atrius' perspective as well. The book is action packed, so even though it's a decent length, it moves quick. I read the whole thing in under 24 hours. A bit predictable, sure, but not in a negative eye rolling sort of way, more of a very well done foreshadowing way.

I really liked getting to see another location in this very complex and well developed world and getting to know another God, Acaeja, the weaver.

I will read this again. I adore Atrius the brooding cinnamon roll who is just so wonderful. Sylina's development throughout the story is also great. I look forward to seeing these characters come back in future Nyaxia novels.

This book is breath taking. I really could
Not stop reading it. It caught me attention from Page 1. The writing is gorgeous and I love the lore and mythology. Charlie Holmberg continues to impress me with her imagination and just beautiful stories.

This book personifies the celestial beings as immortal Gods, demi gods, and godlings in a very pre-industrial fantasy world. It feels and reads like a fairy tale.

I'm not usually a fan of love triangles but this one didn't bother me so much. I do wish the romance of this would've been a bit more flushed out. I found myself Wanting more courtship and such.

The ending comes on so abrupt. And there is so much crammed in the last few chapters that I feel we loose some things. I don't want to share any spoilers but I would've really loved to have more about the 350 years. The epilogue was beautiful though.

Despite the few issues I had, I'm still giving 5 stars because I felt this book so Deeply. It was heartbreaking and hope giving and just beautiful.
