A disappointing follow up to the previous three books in the series.

Although returning to the 'real' world was foreshadowed, it made for a hugely dissapointing book. The characters introduced and built up over the course of the previous three books were suddenly completely absent, and instead this book introduces a large cast of completely new characters and expects the reader to be invested in them from the outset. The inclusion of magic in the 'real' world broke the immersion and instead makes the reader accutely aware that this is a piece of fiction.

The pacing was far slower than the previous books; focusing almost entirely on the politics of different factions with almost now actual action until the very end of the book. The plot twist late in the book was blatently foreshadowed, and the development of the main character was very 'tell' and not much 'show'.

Here's hoping the fifth installment returns to the high standard of the first three!

One of the best litRPG books out there. The main character is funny, likeable and - rare for this genre - not a misogynistic male wish fulfulment. The way magic is gained and used is refreshingly different from the usual 'class' mechanic and the characters, worldbuilding, and pacing are all greatly enjoyable.

A sweet and hopeful short story that made for a quick yet satisfying read, with themes of loss and purpose.

A fairly average crime novel, with a plot not as exciting as the blurb makes it sound. The switch between third person POV (the killer) and first person POV (the lawyer) was fairly jarring at first, and took a while to get used to. Not a terrible way to pass the time, but not particularly thrilling either.

Well constructed and enjoyable worldbuilding, and a decent balance of action and backstory, even if the main plot is a little slow off the ground. The characters were a little two-dimensional; not ill-written but not particularly memorable. The concept, if not especially unique, is well executed so as to not feel stale, and overall made for an enjoyable read.

This books strikes an excellent balance between humour and seriousness; confronting some heavy themes of eating disorders and queer-phobia whilst still being an easy and humourous read. The TV-drama worthy plot was softened by the real, complicated, and lovable characters; the whole thing cumulating in a fought for and well-deserved happy ending.

challenging emotional inspiring medium-paced

A truely captivating and beautiful set of poems that achieve what so few mythology inspired titles -even 'feminist' ones- fail to do; giving the women agency and autonomy over their own stories.

Each poem felt unique, and each gave a thought-provoking, engaging, and novel perspective on a character from mythology, from the well-know to the oft-overlooked. It felt impossible to read each only once, and every reread just emphasizes how clever and insightful they are.

This collection lifts up the characters and truely gives them a sincere and real voice, and is a book I will treasure, enthusiastically recommend, and reread for years to come.

An interesting and engaging set of short stories, each with a unique take on the bicycling/dragons prompt. Refreshingly different.
