"you don’t know what you left because you had been trying to leave so much, it’s hard to tell what you lost, what you kept, & what the price really was."
another comforting installment. pepper and sidra were such a good overlap. i loved the themes of personhood and how to be comfortable with yourself. heavy at times but i enjoyed getting to see the world through sidra's lens and learning about pepper's past. this felt more plot focused than the first but there's still the tender moments, slice of life, and worldbuilding aspects i love so much.
oh my god. this pulled me in right away. all gas, no breaks. i love unreliable narrators and the use of it here was such a ride. that last paragraph was insanity.
always come back to this for cordelia and aral's conversations they have so much chemistry
the concept of souls and narrative being a universal force is so cool and intriguing?? the body horror is delicious too. there's a lot of compelling parts moving here but i just felt worn down by all the military aspects so this is a soft dnf i do plan to revisit this later on when i have more brain space for a story like this because i'm deeply curious how it ends
