Margaret Rogerson's writing is very emotive and beautiful--I really enjoyed this book in regards to its style, tone and voice all because of the author's exquisite writing.

At the same time, I felt that the story was a bit stagnant, static even, as not so many things happen apart from the beginning which then, gives its way to scenes that somehow feel muddied and even boring.

I think that what was missing from this book was tension and external stakes and better worldbuilding--it feels like the author simply took two characters out of a world, wrote their romance story, and she didn't get deeper than that.

It was a quick, feel-good read and the voice artist was excellent, but for a book to be memorable it shouldn't be just a window to an event in a world, it is a chain of events that permits character growth, smart worldbuilding and high tension, no matter the genre

An unnecessary companion to the series of the books.

I can't understand several things about this series and in this book, the obsession with making Jeb a worthy character and the obsession with virginity were the two things that didn't sit well with me.

At least, Jeb got some sort of character arc here but still, he's as indifferent as a plain rock (even rocks are interesting because of their textures, I realize now.)

Generally speaking, I'm sad I invested time in this book as I didn't get to see at all more of Morpheus's character, who despite his initial grooming of the heroine, he gets to change.

I'm going to be very short in this review by saying that I don't like how the author handled the love triangle angle.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Why would the heroine choose both male interests at the same time? She was completely selfish and immature and ignorant the whole time. A very unlikable character that for someone everyone was smitten by her.

Morpheus was pretty much the only character who had some growth but then again, I have to raise an issue with his grooming and the sort of 'pedo' vibes I got from him. This is because the writer, in her attempt to write  a sexy YA out of a children's story, she made it more cringy than what it should be.

Jeb was the epitome of gaslighiting, jealousy and toxic masculinity. Seriously, I can't fall for his act. Seems to me like the author tried to convince us Jeb was an important character for Alyssa only through her POV and only by constant waffling. From the very beginning, you get to read the books, you realize that Morpheus is supposed to be the one and only the heroine has to end up with.

I have lots of issues with the way the author handled her teen characters and the objectification of Alyssa. Do I recommend this series? If you're still in for an Alice in Wonderland retelling with sexy men, and can bypass all those issues, why not?

For me, the series was mediocre, cringy and a bit of a try-hard to impress me.
