Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine

This was the best book in the series so far! The action ran smoothly and it wasn't too much. I finally realized--after reading the first chapter of this book--that part of the reason I was so annoyed with this series in the last few books is because one book just led right into the next, without any break (and yet things happened that would have required a break like getting a new mattress). The few weeks in between Lords of Misrule and Carpe Corpus was NEEDED and I hope that this continues with the other books.

Again, I liked that there was some time between this book and the one that came before it. I really liked the direction this book was going in. Kim annoyed me as much as she annoyed Claire so I guess I'm really falling into Claire's POV. I am also a big fan of Myrnin and kinda want him and Claire to get together romantically (although I doubt it would happen). His progression from the beginning of the series is really nice and he is so quirky that I just love it! Excited to keep reading.

This installment of the long running series was okay. I understood why it needed to be done. You can't write or read 15 books that all take place within one small town. In order to keep things fresh, going outside of it seems like a logical thing to do. Since this was technically the middle book, it makes sense to make this one the traveling story. I didn't mind them not being in Morganville (although I missed Myrnin a lot). What I didn't like was the way that they happen to come across the most unfriendly town in the world and then happened to be found by Morley and then happen to come across a small town plagued by vampires. It was just too much to really believe and felt forced at times. That being said, I still like the characters. I think the one that has grown the most is Shane, which is nice to see.

I loved this memoir! Kate Mulgrew is a fascinating person who went through so many different trials in her life. But, she writes about them with such poetry and amazing language that it feels almost unreal, like you are reading fiction. One scene in particular, when she is sitting with the father of her first child, I was so heart broken that I almost cried. It played out like a romantic drama. Well done, Ms. Mulgrew!

This book was great! It reminded me of all of the Fear Street novels by RL Stine that I grew up on. It was a great mystery and had a lot of suspense. The only thing I was a little iffy on was the end. I think I got where Roux was going but a little more explanation would have gone a long way. Not sure if i want to read the sequel (mainly because I liked this one so much and don't want to be let down if it doesn't live up to it) but I might just put it on my tbr pile and go from there.

I am a big fan of this series, having read each book when they've come out. This one is my least favorite. I think it is more of a set-up book for, what I think, is the last book in the series. Reyes felt unnatural to me and there were more than a few times that I just didn't understand Charley and what she was doing all while being pregnant (9 months!!!). I didn't really believe that not only shouldn't she do some of her galavanting but that she couldn't do it. Then there was the annoying repeating. For some reason many facts were repeated. I'm okay with this in the beginning and it actually helps me remember where the last book left off, but some things were only a few pages away from each other.
BUT, I think everything is set up nicely for the last book and I am excited to read it. (and possibly a spin-off for Beep?)

I liked this book...sometimes. I liked the characters...sometimes. I liked Sarah's first person narration...sometimes. That pretty much sums it up for me. The way Sarah and Theirry meet is cute and I liked their progression...until about half way through. But, I still want to read the rest in the series.

LOTS OF SPOILERS! BEWARE! I put off reading this because I was disappointed with book two in the series. I LOVED book one. It was unique and made me want to read the backstory about this world Kagawa created. I liked Allie and Kanan. But book two was disappointing as they just walked round everywhere and had way too much page time for Jackal, who I wasn't a huge fan of. Book three was more walking and predictable moments--come on! I knew it was Zeke in Old Chicago the second they headed there! I knew Kanan was going to die so I was kinda hoping he wouldn't. I honestly wanted Zeke to die. I liked him as a human and his struggles as a vampire was well written as well, but I felt that he kept Allie human...because he was human. I didn't like them riding off into the vampire sunset together.
I'm not a big fan of Jackal. However, besides his annoying habit of saying the word sister every time he opened his mouth, I didn't mind him so much in this book. I may be the only person in the world who wanted this but...I liked the idea of Zeke dying and Allie getting together with Jackal. I know they are "brother and sister" but not really if you think about it. And she makes him a better person, and character.
All in all, I liked The Immortal Rules but was disappointed from there on. There were many missed opportunities in the second two books. The one thing Kagawa does SO well is her descriptions of action scenes. Hats off to her as writer! She kept me wanting to read and didn't loose my interest in the action and fighting scenes.

I liked this book for the main storyline but I did have a couple of problems with the book as a whole. I wanted more of an ending. It didn't give me enough of a conclusion, which I really wanted to see. I did like the characters of Sonny, Amy, and Ryder. Some more than others but they kept me reading. This is't my first Hamilton High book having read the DUFF a few months ago. With that being said, I think the little sides of past Hamilton High characters was a little bit heavy and too much. I didn't like Bianca or Wesley enough as side characters and the other ones, while I hadn't read their books, I could tell were plants in the story line and not very organic.
Overall, I did like the book and could see this as a movie.

I loved book one but was not impressed with book two. End of Days, however, was amazing! It is action packed with just the right amount of smoldering moments between Penryn and Rafe. I only wanted it to last longer. The end was a little too quick for me. I thought for some reason that this was more than a three book series but there was an end to the story here. All in all, a great read that redeemed the series after the second book.
