The romance was pretty good but it felt like there were a bunch of different tropes that were just shoved together. True love, true love's curse, forbidden love, and one bed (for some reason).
I prefer a hard magic system and this felt more like a soft magic system.

Like when we find out that she can influence the weather, it didn't feel like that would be something that would fit in her power set.

The death of Mr. Beny felt like the author just killed off a character for no good reasons. Im glad he got his happy ending. But other than his ending there didn't seem like he died for any good reason.

I really liked this book's exploration of a colonial relationship between two nations. With that being said, I found the FMC really annoying, she was really self deprecating and that got old really fast. One thing that was annoying to me was I felt like the author over explained things and tended to repeat things just a few pages apart, though this became less of an annoyance after the first part.

I feel like Ruying was too quick to trust Anthony, and took too long to lose that trust. I understand why she helped him but I was surprised that she basically lost all skepticism towards him and his actions. I thought the fact that she gained feelings for him was kind of stupid.

The romantic tension in this book is so tight you could play it like a Harp
The world and character building are really amazing. I also listened to the book while reading it, the narrators were really amazing also and did a great job with portraying emotions that otherwise were not portrayed in the text.
