The Book of Spies by Gayle Lynds

The intimate truthfulness and believability found in a good novel in this genre is what sets a Le Carre out from the crowd. Those are missing from this novel. Don't get me wrong, the book is solidly written, but the author falls into the trap of needing to "tidy things up" at the end and fails the book in the process. The plot moves from barely believable to an "exactly how stupid do you think your readers are" ending in the process.

I love Emma Bull and wish she wrote with more frequency. This was a revisit to an old friend and it doesn't disappoint. Good plot with interesting twists, though it gets a bit muddled toward the middle. Definitely still worth the read.

This is the book that introduced me to Morrow and a better introduction couldn't have been made. It sets down a good premise and runs with it while introducing you to the clever and slightly twisted mind of the author.

A book both beautifully written and harrowing in concept. It's a book that should be read but will probably only be read once. I know I will never read it again.
