Queen Ferris by S.C. Butler

A good second book, that follows closely to the previous. I like the fact that each book takes a different person's perspective without losing the tone of the story. By shifting the focus the author makes the second book stand on its own in many ways and I like that it has a conclusion of its own. I will say about this book what I said about the first, however. I cannot recommend that you buy the series due to the poor final effort.
The Magicians' Daughter by S.C. Butler

This is a horrible book and a truly sad ending to the two previous books. The story is completely disorganized and lacking in cohesion. The main conceit of the book is just that, a conceit. If this book was written in order to make a trilogy, then shame on the publishers. If it was printed because someone thought it had value then shame on the publishers. It is books like this that make me long for a ban on series and trilogies.
Reiffen's Choice by S.C. Butler

This beginning book of the trilogy does a good job of putting a lot of story into the first volume. There are some standard archetypes but also a couple of interesting new twists that I found appealing. But I can't, with good conscience recommend that your read the book now that I have finished the series. I have set the review of this book low, not on its own value, but because of the weakness of the rest of the series.
