This story, particularly the excerpt of fan mail Le Guin received about the story written in the afterword, will stay with me for a long time.

I don’t think listening to plays is for me, or maybe I just got bored.

While the premise is something I really wanted to read, I can’t bring myself to continue. You can tell the author has a lot he wants to say, and so each sentence is long winded, and each new character we meet has such a long exposition you forget the main point of the book.

While I spent most of the first half waiting for the pin (or in this case, the subtweet) to drop, I devoured the second half of this book, dying to know what came next. Other reviews calling these characters messy is partially true- it’s how people act and react when they’re unsure of the security of the connections they’ve made with others. How nothing is black-and-white, how calling in is more important than calling out.
