Overview: Dante Russo thrives on power and control and as a billionaire CEO, he never planned on getting married – until he is blackmailed into it. Vivian Lau, his new betrothed, is a jewelry heiress and daughter of Francis Lau, his newest enemy. It doesn’t matter how beautiful or charming she is, she is the enemy. And he will do everything in his power to take back control and get out of the engagement that was thrown at him. There is just one problem though – he doesn’t want to let her go now that he has her.
Review: I say I love a lot of books, but Miss Ana Huang has hooked me into another one of her amazing series. I read her twisted series last year and loved her writing style that I chose to pick up this series this year and I was not disappointed. I didn’t read the excerpt before picking up this story and so I thought this would be a fantasy book based off the cover and title. That showed me to judge a book off its cover because it was not a fantasy at all but I was not deterred at all. I love the grumpy, broody billionaire men she writes about, and Dante is no exception. Dante was hot AF and I would absolutely let that man do whatever he would like to me, no exaggeration. He’s rich, he speaks Italian, and he planned the most amazing dates for Vivian and treated her like a queen. The character development for him was so satisfying and the banter between these two characters was also out of this world that lead to some GREAT spicy scenes.
I don’t usually love the FMCs as much but I really loved Vivian’s character. She was strong and resilient as well as hardworking and just a bad bitch all around. She came from a strong Chinese family with high expectations of perfection, and Vivian would try her hardest to meet any expectation placed on her by her parents. I think this family perspective is very common in POC families and Miss Huang did a great job of portraying it so that I was able to relate to Vivian’s character.
The book is not a new storyline, there are very common romance book tropes in this book, but Ana Huang does them well and this book was a very enjoyable read. I also love it when we get to see characters from her other books make appearances. Overall, an excellent read that I wouldn’t change anything about and would highly recommend.
Tropes: Arranged marriage, grumpy/sunshine, billionaire, enemies to loves
Triggers: death of a loved one, parental expectations, blackmail
Spice Rating: 3/5
Overall Rating: 5/5
