this is very lyrical and has beautiful prose and some wonderful and thought provoking passages, but i did find it a bit difficult to get immersed in because of the way it’s told in short passages.

not much to say really. kinda short, a bit simple, and hasn’t aged well.

i was going to give this a higher rating but a specific plot point (that i saw coming from a mile away tbh) made me irrationally annoyed, and it’s a totally emotional response but i don’t care.

what i did enjoy about this book is the way the need for attention and love is depicted in all its grisly forms. at times it falls into the “tell instead of show” trap and the protagonist is insufferable and skirts the line of insufferable in a bad way.

if you’re thinking about reading this, do yourself a favour and check content warnings.
