This book was on my list for years. Actually I started reading it shortly after it came out but I was not in the right state of mind for the very depressing truth. Now I actually really enjoyed the first half (it was still depressing though). But I really couldn’t warm up to the second half, I really had to force myself in the last 30 or 40 pages to finish the book. I felt like the second half got very theoretical and meta and a bit crazy as well. I wouldn’t recommend this as the first book someone reads about climate change, but if you already know quite some things, this boom can be a nice addition.

The narrator really did a fantastic job! The writing and the story were very intriguing, but tbh sometimes I didn’t really know what was going on for some time.

It was very interesting read about the experiences of Dian Fossey in her 11 years of research with the mountain gorillas. However I feel like sometimes it was difficult to read and the timeline was not always 100% clear. Maybe a ghost writer or some extra info in footnotes would have helped with the readability.

It‘s a cute little book that drives home its (rather simple) lesson. It’s somewhere between a kids book and adult book with a general lighthearted mood but also some dark undercurrents. I‘m always happy to see an author who is able to imagine a fantasy world without homophobia (although fat- and xenophobia are still striving).

It’s a nice book for getting some basics about climate change and the difficulties of getting to net zero. It also gives some outlooks on how some issues can be tackled.
