for what it is, it's a delight. bridgerton but
for lesbians

frankly, not enough spicy scenes and it is hard to have so much of the plot turn on miscommunication, on "Oh no, I could never ever have love, it's not for me so I can't imagine it"
 the side characters were delightful
and I really didn't expect them to be so supportive of realizing their friends were in love with each other outside the rules of society

also, very cheeky set up for the sequel!

such fun, rivaling magicians and forbidden love! tbh I didn't like the love story woven in, I liked everything else!

great mystery, great protagonist detective and offers a lot of everyday life insights to well rounded characters. could say more about society, but it's super strong as a light read- very talented writer

Did not finish book.
I don't like the characters and found it hard to be compelled by their insular privilege etc

okay I've read a few books about women being psychopaths, but this is the one where i truly believed the narrator was genuinely psychopathic but also how her world view was solidified. also delightfully sick and twisted, very very creatively written

maybe the audio book was harder to connect to - but again, it felt like I was playing a game the whole time of getting strung along by an unreliable narrator

what a question this book sets - is the character/narrator to be believed? very fascinating lens to look at societal expectations of career and marriage as goals
