lily and kath my beloveds! finally finished reading this one and my heart is in pieces on the floor. reading this story as a lesbian made me ache all over because it just hurts knowing that lesbians before me had it so so hard. just found out about homophobia… not good! the side characters — mainly lana jackson — were wonderful and i loved the atmosphere of the telegraph club itself. i did find that the flashback parts involving lily’s family took me out of the story a bit? but it wasn’t that much of an issue tbh. also, though this isn’t the fault of the book, i feel like the ending has been misconstrued when people recommend this — all i’ve heard is how it has a happy ending, but i definitely think it’s more bittersweet than anything else.

overall i really loved reading this and i’m sad it’s over!! kathleen miller i will see you in my dreams.

it’s painfully liberal fanfiction set in a utopia where we’re meant to believe politicians actually have the people’s interests at heart and supposed to root for a white woman democrat from texas to become president because that’s apparently Progressive, not to mention how the very unlikely circumstance of a prince born with a silver spoon in his mouth somehow grew up to be #Woke on all issues and not extremely sheltered (but his older brother did because. reasons?) is swept under the rug and instead we get some offhand comments about how colonisation was Bad... but henry is my special guy and gay people getting happy endings makes me smile so!

i cannot BELIEVE this took me almost a month to read a third of and then two days to finish the rest…

yeah this book is great. volume one reeeaaalllyyy drags imo but the last two volumes are so fun and interesting and exciting i was Glued to the pages!

jane is perfect, elizabeth is perfect, and mr. darcy is not only perfect but also very obviously coded as autistic (coming from an autistic person) and i would like to read someone delve into that because i feel very passionately about this!

i know that objectively, it’s good. it’s a story and a perspective that should be told. but i never want to think about it again. (2.5/5)

here’s a legitimate criticism too i guess: the rape scenes (because that’s what they were, rape scenes) were far too gratuitous when they really didn’t need to be at all. it wasn’t essential to see, it was just unsettling and felt slightly eroticised, even if that was far from the intention.
