Not high literature but a solid, well written sci-fi. Essentially a story of human interactions in a futuristic Earth dystopia. Kept me happily turning pages until the very end.
I was seriously worried that all my favourite characters were going to die. (They didn’t).

I largely enjoyed this book but not as much as This Is Happiness by the same author. This book was written before This Is Happiness but is also set in the fictional Irish village of Faha. In this book, the story is narrated by Ruth. She is a convincing character with a good story to tell (essentially her family history) but her voice is quite irritating, with many asides and sentences that are often a paragraph long.
Overall though a good story with a lot to say about storytelling and the drive of creation

Dickens with sex. It was ok. A fun read I guess. Like watching a second rate tv series with bad actors

Loved this book even more than Stoner. My word this author can write. Flawless. IMO.

This was a fun read. Not a horror story although there are some scary critters in it. It reads like a YA novel but I enjoyed it. Not great literature but we’ll constructed and fast moving

This book read like a therapy session for the son who had not yet forgiven his parents for divorcing. I wanted to know about the birds
