This is one of those books that you know is going to stick with you. One quote that landed with me was “The wonder is that you could start life with nothing, end with nothing, and lose so much in between.”

I listened to the audiobook and I’m not sure if it skipped past trigger warnings about suicide or if they weren’t provided. Having lost someone very close to me to suicide I found myself relating heavily to Clementine and her relationship with her aunt. You learn to grapple with the version you knew of someone and what they presented to the world and a version of them that was struggling deeply. I enjoyed the character development of Clementine in being able to recognize where she was unhappy and challenge herself to step out of her comfort zone, which was something it sounded like her aunt did for her for so long and came back through the apartment to do one last time. It was still whimsical and predictable in the romance; I almost would have preferred if she didn’t end up with Iwan. I still thoroughly enjoyed it overall, even telling my other half that it emotionally wrecked me.
