I did not officially finish it, I got to page like 450 and I gave up. I didn’t really like the way the author used a lot of descriptive language, that’s probably just me but when an author uses 10% of the whole book describing the significance of a tree I’m out lol.

This book is amazing!! I found myself falling for every character a time or two. The writing is wonderful, you can picture everything without being overwhelmed with imaginary. Summarizing in 4 words, my new favorite book.

Dude.......dude.........I was DEVASTATED when Matthias died. But this book did live up to my expectations following six of crows and I feel like most of the romances wrapped up the way I hoped. In summation, this book slapped.

I originally put 4.5 rounded up but I think about this book daily so it’s a full 5 stars
This book had me BAWLING!! It was so real and as described by the author, “tragically human” A unforeseeable plot twist, or plot reveal, however you want to phrase it. I couldn’t help but root for Evelyn even when she was in the wrong, she’s not even real and I can’t see her but even still I was mesmerized.

Here’s the thing...it’s not bad, it’s really not. It’s just not what I expected based on reviews and the synopsis.

I weirdly had the opposite reaction of everyone else, I thought it started strong, and then failed to follow through. The reason why I gave it such a low rating is because I think it delve WAY too much into the politics of it. Like, I assumed that most of the book was going to be how they are going to solve this “madness” or whatever, still was never clear on that. But instead it was who made it happen, and who was working with who.

ALSO, if you’re going to play into the enemies to lovers trope, which I have been known to love, how about, I don’t know, MAYBE ACTUALLY HAVING THE CHARACTERS INTERACT?! Half way through the book and Juliette and Roma, literally, only had 3 conversations, 2 if you’re counting more than 10 words being exchanged.

So, I still give it an alright rating because maybe it’s just me who isn’t big on spending a lot of time on politics. But I don’t make it higher cause, after all, this is a Romeo and Juliet retelling and yet this reads more like a bad wattpad fan fiction than Shakespeare. And I don’t specifically mean that Chloe Gong is a bad author, in fact I found her language and description the saving grace of the book, I just mean that the plot is....scattered? I don’t know the word but ya get the vibe.
