I found this book on Libby, and I wanted to give it a try since I have been reading a lot of graphic novels lately. This one didn’t really hit for me. I felt like there was a lot of missing parts in the story for me. I don’t know if the author felt like it wasn’t important when moving their story to a graphic novel, but I was confused at some points.

I did really enjoy the art style, and I liked how it would switch back to the past and present.

I ended up really enjoying this book! The last time I picked it up was during Thanksgiving break, and I was determined to finish it over Christmas break, and I did! I am going to say the ending wasn’t what I expected. So I’m still recovering from that.

This book is definitely my second favorite book in the Grishaverse (the first being ruin and rising). I think the Bardugo’s writing style improved so much and her story telling was phenomenal. There was some parts where I felt like we were skipping around, and I wasn’t sure where certain characters had come from, but it only happened a couple of times.

I can definitely say that my favorite character is Jesper. I related so much to his constant anxiety and stress about being enough for Kaz, and wanting to win his approval and trust. I also thought he was really funny. I’m really hoping him and Wylan (merchling) become a thing.
