"Have you ever woken suddenly, in the middle of the night, without knowing why? It's only your snow angel passing through, paying you a visit."

When the world becomes too cumbersome and the chaos of realism puts a weight on my mind, I like to find refuge in children's stories.

When reading children's stories, I feel my heart becoming light like a feather. This is what happened with Maggie O'Farrell's, "Where Snow Angels Go". The story revolves around Sylvie, in front of whom, during the night, a mystical entity appears. It is a Snow Angel and it has descended from the skies with a purpose. What is it? I won't give you any more details because I really don't want to spoil the book. 😉

The illustrations are spectacular, imbued with silvery snowflakes, wings, and feathers on almost every page, and the narrative made me experience the feeling of wonder and enchantment. For about an hour, I became a joyful child again and for this I am grateful to Maggie O'Farrell for writing such a sweet, charming story and to Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini for creating splendid watercolor illustrations.

Time to make some snow angels. ❄

"When you make an angel in the snow, it is yours forever."

Having finished reading the book "The Unwinding" by Jackie Morris, I feel like my human self has been transported to a different world, a world where polar bears, foxes, birds, fish, and many other animals are not only companions, but also friends, lovers, and celestial beings. A world where the moon watches over each and everyone, and where the trees, the grass and the leaves whisper soothing and enchanting songs, helping the reader enter a dream-altered state.

Perfect for winter and accompanied by exquisite watercolor illustrations and a gorgeous poetical wording, this book carries an air of ethereal and magic, and a place where polymorphism is not something unusual, but quite the contrary. Every little thing is brought to life, and love, nature and animism represent the essence of the book.

Despite the fact that I read the book in Romanian translation, under the title "Descătușarea și alte reverii", that didn't stop me from fully appreciating the gorgeous artwork and the words that flew like birds across a starry, winter sky.

Thank you, Jackie Morris, for creating such an enchanting, fantastical book. I will treasure it forever.

"Nightmares do not interest her. She seeks only beauty, though sadness charms her, for often the deepest beauty can be found residing in sadness."

"He gave her gifts: a crown of ice, woven with berries, feathers, and the light of love in his wild fox eyes."

"She whispered into the ear of the dreaming bear. If I said that my love for you was like the spaces between the notes of a wren's song, would you understand? Would you perceive my love to be, therefore, hardly present, almost nothing?"

"In summer heat he longed for her. When leaves turned, green to gold, he watched for her. As winter came, on feathered backs of redwing, fieldfare, and threaded through the call of curlew, he waited for her."
