I thought I would come back and actually review this myself instead of just stating the obvious about how I miss Barney.

First, this was the first book that I read in probably the entire year of 2021, so my rating is from a newbie's point of view.

I was genuinely excited to read this and I was not disappointed, but obviously this book is certainly not perfect. There's some flaws I would like to talk about, the main one is how the people being interviewed by the main character, Pip, continued to pour out their sins to this young teenage girl for a project, but perhaps maybe they needed to get it off their chest and this was their perfect chance.

anywhoo, moving on to the next flaw...

I'm not entirely happy about the way Pip believed that Sal was innocent, and based her entire school project on the case, because Sal was "nice" to her. It just doesn't make sense, and I would have liked a more thought out reason behind the need to prove Sal's innocence.

I felt like Pip was also kind of bland, I wasn't reading this book particularly for her, I was reading it for the plot and some of the side characters. I feel like she didn't really have a connection with the other characters as much as she did with, Ravi and her best friend Cara. And that's perfectly normal in a story but I would have liked some more friendships than just them.

Pip's family is the normal family, caring and all that jazz. Vic is amazing and I love him. There's nothing very wrong about this and I think its perfectly fine.

Now Barney. WHY. WHY. WHY. YOU JUST HAD TO KILL OF THE BEST CHARACTER?? BARNEY IS SUPERIOR AND I STAND BY THAT. He did nothing wrong.

Though, as much as I hate saying this, I think that killing Barney off was a good idea. It showed how cruel somebody can be, even if Becca didn't mean to kill him (which i fucking doubt, stupid bitch) it showed that Pip can hurt, she knows when things are unsafe, and shows she has a weakness and that she isn't unbeatable. I felt like that was the only time I had truly cared for Pip, that sounds mean, but I never saw her as a normal person until that raw scene.

anyways, this is my first actual review that is long so hope this isn't complete trash <3
