This woman must’ve put crack on this book because I finished it in 2 days!
I loved Adam and I loved Olive’s inner monologue. If there was more to read about them, I’d pick it up in heartbeat.

This is a Carmilla retelling, which is the OG vampire written like a decade before Dracula, it follows Laura who just joined a new college where she’s pursuing writing and poetry under the top teached Mrs. De La Fontaine while competing with her already pet student Carmilla.
I LOVED the rivals to lovers plot and I really liked the whole gothic academia vibe that the author created within the book.
She wrote an environment that is believable even when the main topic is vampires because she wrote the girlhood to coming of age pipeline really well.
I do feel the end was kind of rushed like trying to tie loose ends in the last chapter.

Overall this was a really enjoyable book and I’m dying to read A Dowry of Blood.

Thanks to the Redhood and Orbit team for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review! Love y’all.

The way this book is not just a book, it's a whole ass experience.
This book involves a fiction author writing the Ship of Theseus which is the story you're reading while at the same time reading the story of Jen and Eric going through the book and annotating in the margins trying to find out who was the real identity of SOT's author.
I read this for my March book club because a friend of ours was like this is one of the best books I've read and you know what, it is one of the books I've read as weeeell!
You feel INVESTED in the story no matter if it's S's story or Jen + Eric's and it got to the point that I also wanted to write in the margins and ask questions.
The inserts also made the story feel completely tangible and real.
In summary, read this book, is awesome!

This is probably the best romance book I’ve ever read.
It was so fun, witty, diverse, funny, the characters were so relatable and lovable.
The couple last chapters did feel a bit rushed but otherwise it was such a cute book.

This was okay, the description it’s a bit misguided because I think it’s more of a memoir than essays but it was funny and relatable.
